3Dimensional Studio designs and manufactures specialist 3D-printed educational demonstration equipment for professional maritime and watersports instruction.
Our products are intended for use by adult instructors, coaches and maritime training providers during structured educational activities, including:
- Sailing and sail cruising
- Powerboating and personal watercraft (PWC)
- Navigation, chartwork and passage planning
- IALA buoyage and collision avoidance
- Windsurfing and wingfoiling
- Inland waterways training
- Other maritime and watersports instruction
Our products are designed to support instructor-led visual demonstrations in classrooms, training centres, shore-based environments and suitable afloat training situations.
Students should observe demonstrations and participate through discussion rather than physically handling the equipment.
These products are not intended for children's recreational play or unsupervised use.
Our intended classification is professional educational demonstration equipment. Where applicable, consideration is given to the educational equipment exclusion under Schedule 1, paragraph 14 of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
Product classification depends on the characteristics, intended use and applicable legislation of each product.
2. Important Safety Information
WARNING – SMALL PARTS AND MAGNETS
Some products contain small components and permanently embedded neodymium magnets.
Swallowing magnets or magnetic components can cause severe internal injury or death. This danger may exist even when magnets remain enclosed within a component.
- Keep products out of reach of children and pets.
- Equipment must be handled only by adult instructors.
- Never place magnetic components in the mouth.
- Do not dismantle, cut, drill, crush or modify products.
- Inspect components before each use.
- Stop using any product that becomes cracked, damaged or broken.
- Discontinue use immediately if a magnet becomes loose, exposed or detached.
- Store all components securely when not in use.
SUSPECTED MAGNET INGESTION IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
Do not wait for symptoms to develop.
3. Embedded Magnets
Our magnetic teaching aids incorporate magnets enclosed within 3D-printed components.
The magnets are intended to remain permanently enclosed during normal use.
However, damage, excessive force, impact or deterioration may compromise the surrounding material.
Users must:
- Check for cracks, separation or other damage before use.
- Avoid dropping, crushing or subjecting products to excessive force.
- Never attempt to remove embedded magnets.
- Remove damaged products from service immediately.
- Dispose of damaged magnetic components safely, keeping them inaccessible to children and pets.
Magnetic Interference
Neodymium magnets can interfere with magnetic compasses, sensitive electronic equipment and certain medical devices.
- Keep magnets away from navigation compasses and magnetic instruments.
- Maintain appropriate separation from pacemakers and other implanted medical devices, following the device manufacturer's guidance.
- Avoid placing magnetic products close to equipment that may be affected by magnetic fields.
Our magnetic teaching aids are not navigation instruments and must never be relied upon for determining actual headings or bearings.
4. Instructor Responsibilities
All products must be operated and controlled by a responsible adult instructor.
Before each teaching session, instructors should:
- Inspect the equipment for damage or missing components.
- Confirm that magnetic parts remain securely enclosed.
- Select a suitable demonstration area.
- Ensure students cannot access or handle the equipment.
- Keep components organised and accounted for.
- Remove equipment from use if any safety concern is identified.
During demonstrations, instructors should maintain control of all components.
Students may observe, answer questions, discuss scenarios and interpret demonstrations without physically handling the products.
5. Use During Afloat Training
Some 3Dimensional Studio products are designed to support instructor-led demonstrations aboard training vessels.
Safety of the vessel, crew and passengers must always take priority over any teaching demonstration.
When using equipment afloat:
- Only conduct demonstrations when conditions are suitable.
- Never allow demonstrations to distract from navigation, lookout or vessel control.
- Secure loose components to prevent loss or movement.
- Keep magnetic products away from compasses and navigation equipment.
- Avoid using small components where they could be dropped overboard or become difficult to retrieve.
- Store equipment safely when manoeuvring, operating at speed or encountering rough conditions.
- Do not allow equipment to obstruct controls, instruments or emergency equipment.
These products are educational demonstration aids only. They must not be used as operational navigation or safety equipment.
6. Care and Cleaning
3D-printed components require appropriate handling and care to maintain their condition.
- Clean using a soft cloth lightly dampened with water.
- Use mild soap where necessary.
- Dry thoroughly before storage.
- Avoid abrasive cleaning materials.
- Do not use solvents, harsh chemicals or aggressive cleaning products.
- Do not immerse products unless specifically identified as suitable for immersion.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat or freezing conditions.
- Do not leave products in hot vehicles or near heating equipment.
Excessive temperatures may cause deformation or weakening of 3D-printed materials.
7. Storage and Transportation
To protect the products and prevent accidental access:
- Store components in a secure container or suitable storage bag.
- Keep products out of reach of children and pets.
- Avoid placing heavy objects on delicate components.
- Protect models from crushing, bending and excessive impact.
- Keep magnetic products away from sensitive equipment.
- Check that all components are present after each training session.
- Transport equipment securely, particularly when travelling aboard vessels.
8. Inspection and Damage
All equipment should be inspected regularly and before use.
Look for:
- Cracks or fractures in the printed material.
- Loose or exposed magnets.
- Separation of printed layers or assembled components.
- Sharp edges caused by damage.
- Deformation, excessive wear or missing parts.
- Any other condition that may make the equipment unsafe.
Do not continue using damaged equipment.
Products with exposed or loose magnets must be immediately removed from service and stored securely pending safe disposal.
Do not attempt repairs that could compromise the enclosure or retention of magnets.
9. Product Limitations
3Dimensional Studio teaching aids are designed to illustrate maritime principles through visual demonstrations.
They are not:
- Children's recreational toys.
- Operational navigation instruments.
- Safety-critical maritime equipment.
- Substitutes for approved navigational publications or instruments.
- Substitutes for practical instruction or professional judgement.
- Suitable for unsupervised student use.
Models, diagrams, colours, proportions and demonstrations may be simplified for educational purposes.
Instructors must refer to current official maritime publications, regulations and recognised training materials when delivering instruction.
10. Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance
3Dimensional Studio is committed to designing and manufacturing products that are safe for their intended use.
Our products are intended primarily as specialist educational demonstration equipment for structured maritime instruction.
The Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 include an exclusion for certain products intended for educational purposes in schools and other teaching contexts under the supervision of an adult instructor.
The applicability of this exclusion must be considered according to each product's design, intended use and circumstances.
Where products fall outside toy safety legislation, relevant general product safety obligations continue to apply.
The absence of toy-specific UKCA marking does not remove the manufacturer's responsibility to ensure that products are safe.
11. Reporting a Product Safety Concern
If you identify a defect, damaged component, exposed magnet or other potential safety issue:
- Stop using the product immediately.
- Keep it secure and away from children and pets.
- Do not attempt to dismantle or modify it.
- Contact 3Dimensional Studio with details of the concern.
- Where possible, provide photographs and relevant purchase information.
Safety concerns can be reported through our website:
